New vision for Soche RedLine Milwaukee, First Stage Christmas Pageant, review of liquor license proposals, and upcoming District 5 safety meeting to focus on Harambee.

1. New Vision for Soche. There are a few new entrepreneurs that may be taking over the operations of Soche, located at 2213 N MLK. They have invited Property Owners, Business Owners and Residents of the King Drive Area to hear their vision and answer any questions. The meeting will be held at Soche, 2213 N MLK, on Monday November 30, 2009 from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm. Please join us if you can.

2. RedLine Milwaukee Exhibit. RedLine is an urban laboratory that seeks to nourish the individual practice of contemporary art and to stimulate the creative potential of the local community to which we are linked ... AND IT IS LOCATED IN OUR DISTRICT! Check out their latest exhibit "All City People's Parade Puppets," through December 23rd. RedLine is located at 1422 N 4th St. and is open Tueday thru Saturday from 10 am - 5 pm. Learn more at www.redlineartmke.org.

3. The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Opening night is sold out, but there are still tickets available for this wonderful First Stage Performance that runs through December 24. Purchase tickets at www.firststage.org, or call 273-7206.

4. Food Drive a Success. Thank you to C.H. Coakley and specifically Mike Coakley for coordinating the Dinner on the Mayflower food drive. Over 20,000 food items were collected. Thanks to all of you who participated! Hopefully many of you caught the news feature on Channel 4 earlier this week.

5. Liquor License Renewals. The Business Improvement District has implemented a new policy to review requests for liquor licenses in the district, including renewals. At our next Board Meeting, scheduled for December 2, 2009 at 8:30 am, we will be reviewing the following requests for renewal:

  • A&J Liquor: Located at 2469 N MLK
  • Lil' General: Located at 233 W Center Street
  • Soche (dba Lounge 2213): Located at 2213 N MLK

It is all of our responsibility to make sure problems, if any, are properly reported so that license holders are held accountable.

6. 5th District Safety Meeting. As a reminder, for those of you in the 5th Police District (north of Walnut), the monthly District 5 Safety Meeting takes place the 1st Thursday of the Month, typically at the 5th District Office, and typically at 5:30 pm. The December meeting will be on Thursday, December 2, at the 5th District Office, 2920 N 4th Street, however, the start time will be 5:00 pm to discuss issues specific to the Harambee Area.
