Accomplice arrested in Potter homicide case fingers shooter
Shooter with criminal record rented from absentee landlords and struck again 12 hours later at nuisance property with another East Side owner
Police have arrested a suspect, Derek J. Thomas (19) AKA "D" of 2509A N. Pierce in connection with the murder of Nathan Potter on 2500 N. Dousman St. on July 6. Between Thomas's statements to police along with witnesses on Dousman and at a second shooting, Seandell Jackson (18) has been identified as Potter's killer and is wanted by police on two counts of intentional homicide and one count of attempted homicide. According to the Journal Sentinel," Thomas told police Jackson said he shot Nathan because he had no money."
Police are still trying to locate Jackson and have added him to the current Milwaukee's Most Wanted poster. 2335 N. Booth in Milwaukee (Riverwest) is Jackson's last known address. Jackson seems to have been a newcomer to Milwaukee this year, since he has recent prior arrests and home addresses in Sheboygan Falls and Green Bay. In January he was arrested and briefly jailed for carrying a concealed weapon. Last year he spent a month in the House of Corrections for resisting or obstructing and officer.
The second shooting Jackson is accused of committing occurred at 2324 N. Holton exactly 12 hours later, allegedly at Jackson's girlfriend's residence in a rear cottage. The victim ended up in a 2200 N. Buffum St. alley. 2324-25 N. Holton is a chronic nuisance property, and the most recent complaint record the Department of Neighborhood Services (DNS) has for it is an inspection request for possible abandonment. The recorded property owner is Daryl C. Brockman, an Upper East Side resident. The Booth property is also owned by Upper East Side residents.
From the Journal:
On Tuesday, detectives arrested Thomas, alias "D", on municipal warrants, and he told them he and Jackson met up on July 5 and decided to do some robberies because Jackson needed money, and had a gun. Later that night, they were casing a tavern on Dousman when they saw Potter walking in the 2500 block of N Dousman St. about 1a.m.
According to Thomas, while he acted as a lookout, Jackson approached Potter and shot him with a .45 caliber handgun. Then they pair ran back to Thomas' house on N. Pierce St. and played video games, Thomas told police.
Thomas has been at his Pierce St. address for at least a year; he received municipal citations for possession of marijuana last July at this location. He received another citation for possession this February at 8935 W. Monrovia among multiple other citations at Riverwest locations in early 2009.
How about some TENANT SCREENING and nuisance property abatement?
