Two public hearings this week have been scheduled to gather input on the City of Milwaukee’s plans for using federal Community Development Block Grant funds, according to Alderman Joe Davis, Sr.
Alderman Davis, chair of the Common Council’s Community and Economic Development Committee, said the committee will host the hearings away from City Hall to make them easier for affected residents to attend. The details are:
• Tuesday, July 14 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the United Community Center, 1028 S. 9th St.
• Wednesday, July 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dr. Benjamin Carson Academy of Science, 4920 W. Capitol Dr.
Alderman Davis said the hearings will focus on the five-year (2010-2014) “Consolidated Strategy and Plan” which allows local jurisdictions (and citizens) the opportunity to shape the various housing and community development programs into effective, coordinated neighborhood and community development strategies, and the CDBG funding allocation plan for 2010 – the multifaceted grants component that draws heavy interest each year.
“It’s critical for the Community and Economic Development Committee to reach out to the community for input and direction on how Milwaukee’s CDBG dollars should be spent, and I’m strongly encouraging interested residents to attend one or both of the hearings,” he said.
The Community and Economic Development Committee is scheduled to take action on both proposed plans at its meeting at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2009 in room 301-B at City Hall, 200 E. Wells St.
The public can also go to www.city.milwaukee.gov/CommunityDevelopment310.htm to view the plan reports. |
