 2009 at 4PM\n\nChase Commerce Center\n3073 S. Chase Ave.\nMilwaukee\, Wisc
 onsin 53207 \n\nSo\, what is a BarCamp?\n\nA BarCamp is a participatory
un-conference” event\, where the attendees are in charge of what happen
 s. We provide all the basic needs\, and hope that people interested in tea
ching and learning in an open environment come together to share their kno
wledge and experience. What will the sessions be about at BarCampMilwaukee
4? Whatever people are interested in. In past years\, we’ve learned abou
 t robots\, Drupal\, Elevator Hacking\, Ruby on Rails\, video editing\, tec
hnology solutions for non-profits\, gone on PhotoWalks\, discussed Microfo
rmats\, talked about gadgets\, played Nintendo Wii\, Guitar Hero\, werewol
 f\, seen immersive 3D environments\, talked about software development\, o
pen source\, closed source\, web development\, geeks and sex… and plenty
of other things. (Whew!)\n\nWhy is it (sometimes) called an “un-confere
nce”? Because you aren’t coming to see one person speak\, or a “pane
l of experts” on stage. You’re coming to meet and connect with people
just like you. We are all experts at our own experiences\, and BarCamp is
about sharing those experiences with others. If you know something\, you s
houldn’t be afraid to speak up and say it. If you aren’t sure about so
mething\, ask some questions. We like to say that your participation is yo
ur entrance fee. BarCampMilwaukee4 will be free (thanks to our sponsors) b
ut you can’t just sit there and absorb… you have to get involved\, and
take part in the event.\n\nWikipedia has a great page explaining what a B
 arCamp is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BarCamp\n

DESCRIPTION: The Truest Thing You Know: A Workshop on Performing Your Writ
 ing with Jennifer Morales\nSaturday\, October 24\, 1-5pm $40 / $35 memb
ers\n\nThere are some things we know so deeply that nothing can shake them
. This knowledge may be intellectual\, but most likely it is emotional\, p
hysical\, religious\, or spiritual. Sometimes clues to these core truths e
merge through recurrent patterns and themes in our writing.\n\nThis worksh
op will explore how we can use the power of the truest things we know to f
ire up the public performance of our writing. We will start with a brief e
xamination of the creeds and manifestos of others and then we will each id
entify an individual core truth to fuel our whole performance. We will use
a series of collaborative exercises to reveal the ways that trusting this
core truth can give us the security and energy to perform our writing wit
h passion and purpose.\n\nThis workshop is appropriate for writers in any
genre. Please review your work ahead of time looking for recurring themes.
Also\, bring a few pieces of your own writing and one piece of writing th
at thrills you (preferably one of your own but a piece by another author i
s also permitted).\n\nJennifer Morales is a freelance writer and editor.
Jennifer holds a B.A. in Modern Languages and Literatures from Beloit Coll
ege and is currently enrolled in the Creative Writing program at Antioch U
niversity-Los Angeles\, pursuing an M.F.A. in fiction. As a recently retir
ed politician and some-time Sunday school teacher\, her ability to convinc
e others of the truth is well regarded by adults and children alike.\n \n

DESCRIPTION:Bio-Poetics: Science\, Language and Poetry\nwith Marie Larson
 Saturday\, November 15\, 1-4pm\n$30 / $25 members\n\nIn this workshop we'
ll investigate the many ways scientific enquiry serves as raw material for
writing poems. Looking towards biology\, astronomy\, chemistry and quantu
m physics this workshop will explore how the strange beauty of scientific
knowledge\, theory and language can feed the content and lyric of our poem
 s. We'll also explore how scientific ideas can lend a language for discuss
ing poetic structure. How is a poem a living organism? How is it a black h
ole? A membrane? Through writing exercises and looking at work by writers
working from science\, we'll widen and shift our poetic vocabularies and p
erception of the phenomena around us.\n\nMarie Larson holds an MFA in poe
try from Naropa University's Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics. H
er work has appeared in GAM\, DIAGRAM\, Shampoo\,Bombay Gin\, and Fact
-Simile. She also has work forthcoming in the anthologyChicken Boa: Notes
on Skrilla (Mitzvah Chaps). Larson's review of Lila Zemborain'smauve sea-
orchids appeared in issue 37 of Jacket Magazine. Her current project\,Bl
ight\, looks to press against the taxonomical membrane of what it means to
be human.\n To register call 414-263-5001.

 s\n John Corbett - guitar\n \n Glenn Kotche's virtuosity as a pe
rcussionist has been heralded by The Chicago Tribune for his &quot\;unfail
ing taste\, technique and discipline.&quot\; His eclectic performances and
original compositions have explored the creative use of rhythm and space
through various percussion projects the past 20 years. His various stints
with groups and ensembles have resulted in participation on over 80 albums
to date\, including three recorded solo works: Introducing\, Next\, and M
obile (the last released on Nonesuch Records). In 2007\, the Kronos Quarte
 t premiered Kotche's Anomaly\, a 25 minute\, 7 movement piece at the San F
rancisco Jazz Festival. In the midst of composing for his solo efforts\, K
otche joined the rock band\, Wilco in 2001. Since joining as drummer/percu
 ssionist\, Wilco's accomplishments include &quot\;Yankee Hotel Foxtrot&quo
t\;\, &quot\;A Ghost Is Born&quot\;\, the live double record &quot\;Kickin
 g Television&quot\;\, and most recently &quot\;Wilco (the album).&quot\; H
e also records and performs as one half of experimental jazz duo On Fillmo
re and as one third of the trio Loose Fur with Jim O'Rourke and Jeff Tweed
 y.\n \n \n \n \n \n

 \n \n \n Jason Roebke\n
   \n \n \n \n \n John Corbett's unique voice as an impr
ovising guitarist and turntablist is often eclipsed by his more high profi
le endeavors as a concert and radio producer\, visual arts curator\, autho
r and music critic\, director of Atavistic Records' Unheard Music series\,
and co-owner of the gallery Corbett vs. Dempsey in Chicago. As an acousti
c guitarist he has performed and recorded with Mats Gustafsson\, Terri Kap
salis\, Torsten Mueller\, Fred Lonberg-Holm\, Guillermo Gregorio and many
others. He has release several discs of studio-based compositions in colla
boration with David Grubbs\, Hamid Drake\, Lou Mallozzi\, Mats Gustafsson\
, Davey Williams\, and others. He has performed in concert with members of
the Nihilist Spasm Band\, Alan Licht\, Thurston Moore\, and Michael Snow.
He most recently has contributed the musical soundscape to a collaborativ

of Terri Kapsalis' book The Hysterical Alphabet.\n \n The diversity
of Jason Roebke's musical associations make him one of the most sought af

(with Rob Mazurek and Dylan van der Schyff)\, co-leads the modular music
and dance unit Art Union Humanscape (with Ayako Kato\, Tim Barnes\, Michiy

Jason Adasiewicz). Roebke is also a member of various jazz bands includin
 g the Jeb Bishop Trio\, Fred Lonberg-Holm's Valentine Trio\, Klang\, the K

 ijkstra's Flatlands Collective\, and Jason Adasiewicz's Rolldow.\n \n
As a musician\, Glenn Kotche is devoted to playing exactly what the song
needs—whether the rhythm is extremely complicated or supremely simple.
And he'll do so using only one or two pieces of his drumset\, or a vast ar
ray of percussive devices\, at times providing a mind-blowing spectrum of
 sonic colors and textures.&quot\; (Jim DeRogatis\, Modern Drummer\, 2005)
\n \n &quot\;Roebke often provides tiny gestures of rhythmic intrigu
e\, bowing brief harmonics\, sometimes in an altogether different register
\, filling the sound almost to a quiet breaking point.&quot\; (Dusted\, Ma

DESCRIPTION:Do you think clowns belong only in circuses\, birthday parties\
, and wanted posters? Think again. The clown is one of the most enduring f
igures in performance history\; from the virtuosic physical bits of Chapli
n and Keaton to the verbal ballet of Will Ferrell and Stephen Colbert. The
study of clown is the study of what is essential in performance\; presenc
 e\, timing\, relationship\, risk\, truth\, and joy. Bucketworks member\, T
he Hinterlands will lead a full day clown workshop on Saturday\, April 17t
 h from 10:00am - 6:00pm exploring: Comedic timing\, being &quot\;for&quot\
; an audience\, admitting the truth\, simplicity\, ferocious play. Get you
r tickets in advance and pay $55 because they're $60 at the door. To reser
ve your spot now send an email to info@thehinterlandsensemble.org or call
 414.208.4237.
