Drum Leaf Binding: The Perfect Book Structure for Painters\,
Printers &amp\; Collage Artists with Sharon Van Ruiswyk\n
  Sunday\, January 24\, 10am-4pm with a break for lunch $75/$70 members\n
\n Developed by Tim C. Ely based on the bind
ing models of a 17th century atlas of astronomy\, Drum Leaf Binding is the
perfect structure for painters\, printer and collage artists. Each two-pa
ge spread can be a print\, painting or a unique image folded in half elimi
nating the need for complex organizations. Drum Leaf Binding\, like an acc
ordion book\, allows you to layout the information in a more intuitive fas
hion. While the pages are straightforward in their construction\, the book
uniquely can lay flat and each spread opens flat for complete visibility.
\n \n This is an exceptional binding for t
hose book artists interested in unique books that feature hand painted ima
ges\, or one-of-a-kind collages. It is equally valuable to printmakers loo
king to create books out of their prints but who are not interested in bre
aking up images to accommodate impositions across pages and around gutters
. In a more simplified paper cover\, this binding is an excellent choice f
or first time book artists—including young children—it involves no sew
ing experience or skills and allows students to lay out each two-page spre
ad in advance of the final collation. With slight modifications in glues a
nd papers\, it also lends itself well to digital book making.\n
\n Students are invited to bring: pencil\, scissors\,
 ruler\, exacto cutter\, cutting mat\, materials to decorate pages\, glue s
tick and images for collage\, drawing materials. Students can also bring a
lready completed pages with images or collages if they so choose. A page s
pread is 6x12 inches (same as two 6x6 pages side by side).\n

DESCRIPTION:--Monday\, May 3rd\, at 7:00pm at the Polish Falcons hall\, 801
  E. Clarke Street--\nGreetings\, neighbors.\nWe've had three murders here
in Riverwest in less than nine months\; three more than is tolerable. We'v
e also had some non-fatal shootings. Recently we've had some armed robberi
es. A few weeks ago we received a communication from the 5th District rega
rding a spike in burglaries in the area. Vehicle break-ins are a year-roun
d problem. And we still have blocks where neighbors are being disturbed\,
harassed and intimidated by a few bad apples that spoil the block they are
on as well as surrounding blocks.Even with those problems\, Riverwest con
tinues to be one of the safest areas\, if not the safest area\, in the 5th
District. But we can't &quot\;rest on our laurels.&quot\; We know we must
remain committed to working together to continue to improve conditions in
Riverwest\, and to keeping our neighborhood &quot\;the greatest place on
Earth&quot\; (Disneyland be damned!).The Central Riverwest Neighborhood Bl
ock Watch Organization will host a Riverwest Community Safety Meeting to a
ddress problems and issues in the neighborhood that threaten public safety
and our &quot\;way of life\,&quot\; and to explore ways to remedy those s
ituations. The meeting will be held on Monday\, May 3rd\, at 7:00pm at the
Polish Falcons hall\, 801 E. Clarke Street.3rd District Alderman Nik Kova
c\, 6th District Alderwoman Milele Coggs\, Milwaukee County District Attor
ney John Chisholm\, Department of Neighborhood Services Commissioner Art D
ahlberg and Safe &amp\; Sound Director Joe Kubisiak have committed to atte
nd\, and we are waiting hear from Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn and Milw
aukee City Attorney Grant Langley. This is not intended to simply be a &quo
t\;bitching session.&quot\; We all know what our problems are. What we nee
d to do is come together and brainstorm so we can come up with solutions\,
ways to alleviate the problems together as a neighborhood.So\, WE NEED YO
UR HELP!We will place fliers announcing the meeting in the windows of Rive
rwest businesses\, in the neighborhood bars\, and on the various bulletin
boards in our area. But that will not be enough. We need YOU to volunteer
to distribute fliers to all of the addresses on your block (and perhaps an
other block or two if you can). If enough of us are willing to help\, we c
an make certain all of Riverwest will know about the meeting.I'll need to
know if you are willing to help by this Saturday\, April 24th. You can rea
 ch me at larryspikebandy@yahoo.com (mailto:larryspikebandy@yahoo.com).Sor
ry to be so long-winded\, but the safety of our neighborhood is a very ser
ious matter to me\; I hope it is for you also. With love\,Spike BandyCoordi
